Butler Sheetmetal was a small fabrication business in Colne, Lancashire. I built them a blog instead of a static website, documenting the reality of metalwork: the welding, the problem-solving, the craftsmanship. Everyone said it was absurd - "how more dull can you get than sheet metal?"

Within months, we were getting 50,000 monthly visitors. The Guardian featured us. The Times named us one of Britain's Top 50 Business Blogs - the only industrial company on the list. The British Library archived the site as a significant artifact of UK digital history.

The lesson: Butler Sheetmetal didn't win because it had better steel. It won because it told a better story.

OSU Wexner Medical Center

Proprietary "Healthcare Intent Search Framework" presented at MozCon

Healthcare search is unique. Patients don't search like consumers, they're scared, urgent, and often don't know the right terminology. I developed a proprietary "Healthcare Intent Search Framework" specifically for OSU Wexner Medical Center.

The framework mapped patient intent stages to content strategy, ensuring the right information appeared at the right moment in the patient journey. The methodology was presented as a case study at MozCon.

The Throughline

From Lancashire sheet metal in 2004 to AI-powered audits in 2025, the core principle hasn't changed:

Be findable where decisions are made.

In 2004, that meant blogging. In 2015, it meant search intent frameworks. In 2025, it means being machine-readable for AI agents.
